If you are an individual or institution that is involved in integrated tracking of aquatic animals in the Gulf of Mexico and wish to join the iTAG network, please review the iTAG membership agreement and have ready the following information for registration: tag array #, species name, number of live tags, expected year of tag death and a species image if you would like that for the project page.
Mission Statement
Increase the capacity in the Gulf of Mexico to assess movements and spatial ecology of aquatic animals at the Large Marine Ecosystem scale through improved networking, increased infrastructure, and sharing of acoustic transmitter detection data.
Nature of Service
The iTAG community is a scientific network facilitating the exchange of information and data between scientists. The iTAG network provides: an integrative map of acoustic telemetry research throughout the Gulf of Mexico; the ability to exchange detection data across receiver arrays, and networking and workshop opportunities to improve tracking science and its ability to inform management.
Membership Responsibility
Members using the data exchange must also maintain receiver arrays and contribute data to the exchange. However, we realize that there are important members of the community who do not oversee telemetry research but which help us meet the iTAG mission through funding research or workshops or facilitating important collaborative relationships which improve the science.
If you wish to become a member and fall into this category please remember to fill out the contribution field with how you are contributing to the iTAG community. Examples of contributions include:
- donating receivers to core iTAG arrays in the Gulf of Mexico,
- helping to sponsor iTAG meetings, or
- providing field help for maintaining core iTAG acoustic arrays. In the unlikely event that researchers adopting orphan tags are unable to accommodate these investment opportunities, and rely on iTAG receivers to complete their studies, the study should have a written agreement with the array owners
