INNOVATIVE
Technological advances are rapidly changing scientific capacity. Part of iTAG’s mission is to promote knowledge of emerging technologies including mobile platforms, new tag and marine tracking approaches, and integrating movement data with other data sources to understand causes and consequences of movement. The resulting data will be critical to fisheries management in terms of assessing stock structure, mortality, and changes in migratory patterns and catch rates.
GULF-WIDE
iTAG has members in Mexico, the US, and Cuba and is linking movements of fishes from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico, such as white sharks tagged off of Massachusetts seasonally moving into the Gulf. We are building linkages between iTAG and other groups and synthesizing physical, biotic, environmental, and living resources data in the Gulf of Mexico to improve our understanding of causes and consequences of movements in this dynamic ecosystem.
